Torie had a really rough night with dropping her oxygen level. By this morning she was on high-flow O2 at 8L with 95% FiO2. That was maintaining her at about 92-94%. She had another Echo that showed that her pericardial effusion is resolved. But chest X-Rays are now showing a pleural effusion. She's back on diuretics (Lasix and Aldactone) to try to get some of this fluid off. The Docs are thinking that this is serositis - inflammation of serous cavities, especially heart, lung. and peritoneum. She perked up quite a bit after a couple of doses of Lasix, and is now down to 80% FiO2. She hasn't had a fever, but they are continuing the Vanco and Fortaz so that she doesn't develop a pneumonia. Tomorrow they'll decided whether or not to put in a chest tube to drain the pleural effusion, and possibly start on steroids. She did eat a little bit of dinner, but she's really not taking enough in to maintain her calories, so she's back on TPN and Lipids. She's sleeping good right now - she didn't get much sleep last night or today. Even as tired and worn out as she is, she's still about the sweetest thing around. Mom was getting ready to go back to RMH this evening and telling Torie good-bye. Torie said, "Bye Ma-Great. Thank you for changing Torie diaper." Sweet, huh? And all this quality time we've been spending has led to nicknames...Mom is now Ma-Great, I'm Ma-Cheryl, and Teddie is now Ted. Just Ted. And since Teddie - oops, Ted - has been there every step of the way with Torie, I guess that's okay!
Not a real cheery update, I know, but there is some joy in Mudville...Rylie's coming! She'll be here May 11th for her 2-year post-BMT evaluation. Hooray! I'm so glad we'll get to see them. We think of Rylie so often and she gives us so much hope for Torie's future. I know I don't even have to ask again, but please know that your thoughts and prayers are never taken for granted! Grow Cells, Grow! Engraft! Vic-Torie!

ReplyDeleteWe have been praying for you all since the beginning when we "met" you through Josiah's family. The children talk about Torie as if they know her. I thought you'd like to know that there are more prayer warriors out there praying for Torie to grow the new cells and to heal from these effusions, for strength and wisdom for the Grands, and that you will all hang on to our Lord as you put one foot in front of the other each day.
